About Nermina's Pastry
Nermina Brkić
Passionate confectioner and visionary, dedicated to conveying the magic of Bosnian tradition all over the world.
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
My name is Nermina, and my mission is that the Netherlands, and then other countries, get to know the real magic of Bosnia and Herzegovina through our confectionery tradition. It all started one rainy, windy day in the Netherlands, with a cup of Bosnian coffee and a view of the cloudy sky, when I opened an old notebook full of recipes written down long ago. That notebook carries memories from the past, but also a secret that is waiting to be discovered and shared with the world - the secret of our wonderful cakes.
Passing through the world's capitals in recent years, improving myself in the art of confectionery and getting to know rich culinary traditions, I was more and more convinced that our rich history, which did not always go our way, shaped our confectionery in a unique way. Our cakes are not the result of modern technological innovations, but are the fruit of the skill and passion of our mothers, aunts, and sisters who use methods that are in fact still the foundation of many great confectionary techniques. Pastry giants around the world often apply the same secrets – slowly, patiently and with love – to create delicacies that are reminiscent of those made in small, humble kitchens with heart.
Our mission is simple – we want to share our love of sweet treats with the world and to present in a special way the wealth of flavors and traditions that come from the heart of the Balkans. The cakes we prepare are not just desserts; they are a story about love for the homeland, family gatherings and our passion for food. In each piece there is a touch of our Bosnia and Herzegovina, and each tasting is a journey through time and space.
The decision has been made. Let the world enjoy the flavors of our cakes and feel the warmth of our traditions. We hope that every cup of Bosnian coffee and every bite of cake will bring a touch of Bosnia and Herzegovina to your home, just as it this was done in the Netherlands, and soon worldwide.
I owe this to my mother, who made all this possible, but I also leave a legacy to my daughters Emina and Lejla. Wherever we are, let's not forget where we come from.
